Cosmos
2010-2025 (ongoing)
Works created using the marquetry technique represent an ontological narrative of the Universe. Composed of hundreds of small fragments of wood, they reveal the structures of the cosmos at various levels of reality. In every plant, we encounter infinite systems of tissues governed by the same physical laws as distant galaxies.
The earliest known examples of marquetry date back to ancient Egypt, around 3000 BCE. At that time, the technique was used to decorate furniture and everyday objects, employing materials such as wood, ivory, and precious metals.
The technique evolved over the centuries, becoming a highly esteemed art form in Renaissance Italy.
The marquetry series, created since 2011, simultaneously references the rich tradition of craftsmanship and explores the complexity of the Universe and its primordial structures on a metaphysical level.
