Synesthesia

2021

Synesthesia is a phenomenon where senses intermingle, creating unusual neural connections, such as perceiving sounds as colors. In 1881, E. Bleuler and K. B. Lehmann described it as “the sensation of light, color, and form triggered by hearing.” Throughout art history, there have been artists gifted with this unique synergy of senses – painters such as Vincent van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and Georgia O’Keeffe, as well as composers like Ferenc Liszt and George Gershwin.
The ebru technique captures fleeting, immaterial forms that organically correspond with the ephemeral nature of sound, transcending the boundaries between visual art and music.
